WALLPAPER

From the series “And the House Frowned”, Wallpaper is a project that consists of installations of pieces that are made up of concrete and flower along with their photographs with the aim of documenting the process of the materials within and with their surroundings. The main motive is to cover interior and exterior spaces to a point where it becomes part of the surrounding environment that as time passes one becomes numb to, just as a wallpaper in a kitchen. The actions of coming together and coming apart are pivotal in this process. Through embedding flowers in concrete, the actions of killing, housing and preserving occur. Flowers placed in concrete don’t die right away. Their death is observable. They grow weak as time passes; yet this way of killing preserves their color. On one hand their lives are taken away, on the other hand they are given immortality as a result of being housed permanently. Concrete allows flowers to remain frozen in time, killing through housing, creating a silent environment in which the work dwells.
